Since 2012, Kevin Wheeler has coordinated the development of a stakeholder-oriented water management planning model for the Nile Basin Initiative’s Eastern Nile Planning Model of the Subsidiary Action Program (ENSAP). Focusing on the regions of the basin that include Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan and Egypt, the RiverWare model simulates the water allocation and operation of the existing and proposed reservoirs on the Blue Nile and Main Nile. The explicit purpose of the model is to provide a platform for stakeholders to design and test alternative management strategies and potential development scenarios. With the flexibility of the RiverWare software, essentially any potential water management strategy can be simulated and evaluated.
